U-HAUL RENTAL – ARE YOU COVERED? October 26, 2023
You’re moving locally or across the country or sending a child off to college, but whatever the
reason you need to rent a U-Haul, or such type of vehicle and you wonder if your auto insurance
will cover you.
As with everything, rules have changed with how insurance carriers are covering – or NOT covering
these types of vehicles, so it is especially important you contact your auto insurance carrier
before you get behind the wheel.
Before renting, be sure to review all coverage options available through that vendor; they may
offer various levels of coverage and certain exclusions may apply, so be sure to read the fine
print. Make sure you understand the limits of liability provided and what your responsibility will
be if you have a collision or other loss that involves a deductible. Most documents can be located
on-line with your rental provider and at the sales desk.
It may also be good to investigate covering your contents. If you have homeowner insurance, some
coverage will apply, but no coverage, say for instance, if you are in a collision.
